CAT C PRISON

UPDATE

Public meeting at 6.30pm, 30 May at the Training Centre, HMP Full Sutton, with local MP Greg Knight to discuss plans.
Draft notes from that meeting

Contact details If possible send copies of your objections to the people listed on this sheet.

Although ERYC have said comments should be received by 31st May, they will accept comments up to the day before the Planning meeting, and more is better.

Comments can be sent either via ERYC Planning portal, or to local Councillor Andy Burton, who says he will make sure they are heard.

An outline planning application for the site has been lodged on the ERYC planning site and full details of the proposals can be viewed there. The plan reference number is 17/01494/STOUT, but putting 'Prison' in the keyword search box at the bottom of the first page brings it up quickly.

The plans comprise a complex of 11 buildings, directly adjacent to the existing prison, including four large four storey blocks, to house 1000 inmates (the existing prison is only 2 storeys, thanks to interventions at the planning stage).

East Riding Council are in favour of the proposal, but other parishes neighbouring the site also have deep reservations about its viability for such a prison. Fangfoss with Bolton Parish Council will support attempts being made to stop, or at the very least, moderate, the plans, and if the latter, to seek some planning gain as a result, e.g. in the form of new road links etc.

If you are concerned about the prison and wish to make your views known, Full Sutton Parish Council are hoping to co-ordinate a response, with professional help. Please feel free to contact the clerk, Claire Miles Findlay (clerk@fspc.org.uk or telephone 01759 747001) as well as posting your views on the planning website and writing to your local councillors to make your opinions known. (Some contact details can be found below). The stated last date for receipt of comments by the planning office is 31 May, so please try to observe that deadline - although comments are usually taken into account up until the actual decision meeting.

Some ideas of grounds for objection:

  • Inadequate traffic infrastructure - narrow lanes and poor public transport not sufficient to take the increased numbers of visitors and staff.
  • Undesirable visual impact of 4 storey buildings in a low rise setting
  • Increased light and noise pollution
  • Detriment to community life with prison visitors and potentially those attempting to convey prohibited goods into the prison by various means converging on a quiet rural setting.

Updates will appear on the Full Sutton & Skirpenbeck Parish Website as they develop their strategies.
